Movement Meditation

About movement meditation

Our HealTree founder, Catrina Stiller, is certified through a 300-hour program called Trauma Centered Trauma Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY). With this certification, she leads a donation-based, virtual Movement Meditation class. Currently held on Wednesdays from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

If you are interested in participating, please fill out the interest form. More information about the practice can be found below.

What is TCTSY?
TCTSY is a clinical intervention used to treat complex trauma or chronic PTSD that has been studied for over 20+ years and validated to be an effective form of treatment. It is based on trauma theory, attachment theory, neuroscience, and yoga philosophy and practice.

What is Movement Meditation?
Movement Meditation is Catrina Stiller's creation based upon the TCTSY teachings and her own personal experience of living with mental health disorders. Consequently, this class is appropriate for anyone who has experienced any mental health diagnosis and not only for those who have complex trauma or PTSD. While this class does employ physical forms and movements, the focus is on your internal experience - what the forms feel like instead of what they look like. The power resides within you to make choices and take effective action. By focusing on the felt sense of your body to inform choice-making, Movement Meditation provides opportunities for you to restore your connection between mind and body and to cultivate a sense of agency that is often compromised as a result of the daily pressures of life.

You may find the pace of this class slow, or you may find it moderate. The shapes include various body parts - head, neck, shoulders, arms, hands, torso, legs and feet. You will have a choice to engage in seated movements, standing shapes, and balancing shapes. You will always have the option to remain in stillness and not engage in the shape or to make different shapes in your body than Catrina will be making in hers. You can refer to this video for an example of this practice.

FAQs

How do I join?
The first step would be to fill out the interest form. Once received, we will reach out to schedule a brief introductory phone call at a mutually agreeable date and time. During this call, we will ask some questions about your experience with movement classes and ongoing support systems. After the short call, you will receive an email containing the session times and Zoom links.

How much does it cost?

There is a sliding scale of suggested donation amounts with the lowest suggested amount being $15. Payment can be made a number of different ways and payment options will be shared in the enrollment email. We never want finances to be prohibitive of joining. Folks are welcome to join whether or not they can contribute financially.

Are these sessions online? Do I need to turn my camera on?

The sessions are currently offered online via Zoom. It is entirely optional to have your camera on or off. We ask that during the session, you practice with your microphone off. You are welcome to connect before or after the movement practice, if you'd like, and it is completely acceptable if you do not.

Is there talking/processing?

There is not a processing component to these sessions. The session is approximately 50 minutes of optional movement with about 5 minutes at the beginning and at the end for questions, feedback, and/or connection.

Do I have to stay for the whole session or can I come and go?

If you need or want to leave at any point, you are welcome to leave the session. You are also welcome to leave the meeting open and mute the sound or step into another room if you would like the option to return later in the practice. If you are ever running late for class, please feel free to join at any point during the 60 minutes. If no participant is present by 15-20 minutes after the hour, the session will be closed.
