The Science of Vision Boards

The creation of a vision board is a great way to show our goals some love.  Our brains respond with an increase of dopamine when we pay attention to our goals. Dopamine functions as a motivator and creates the feeling of pleasure when we achieve a goal. Each small step we complete increases our motivation and determination which leads us to continue making progress.

Vision boards also assist us in taking ownership of our goals.  Psychology shows that when we claim something as our own, we integrate it with our identity.  This is known as the endowment effect.  When we embody a goal, we program our unconscious to make decisions that reflect ownership.  As our unconscious drives our behaviors 90% of the time, this can be a very powerful tool. We then begin to make decisions that reflect that ownership.

We also use vision boards to help us visualize how our goal achievement will look.  Images are powerful communication tools for our unconscious. This can solidify the alignment between our conscious goal oriented selves and deeper parts of our consciousness.
