At HealTree, we believe healing begins not just in the mind, but in the body. Somatic therapy is a holistic approach that honors the wisdom of both. The word “somatic” simply means “of the body,” and this form of therapy helps you reconnect with the sensations, movements, and signals your body has been trying to communicate all along.
While traditional talk therapy focuses on thoughts and stories, somatic therapy gently invites awareness of how emotions and experiences live in the body — the tightness in your chest when anxious, the lump in your throat when sad, the holding in your shoulders after years of carrying too much. By noticing and working with these sensations, we create space for release, regulation, and deeper self-understanding.
In somatic therapy, you might explore grounding exercises, breathwork, gentle movement, or mindfulness practices — tools that help you come home to yourself. Over time, this process allows you to feel more present, more connected, and more at ease in your own skin.
At its heart, somatic therapy is about listening. Your body holds stories words can’t always reach. When we approach those stories with curiosity and compassion, they begin to shift — and healing unfolds from the inside out.
Interested in exploring somatic therapy? We’d love to walk alongside you as you reconnect with your body’s natural wisdom and capacity to heal. Check out our weekly community class offering an Intuitive Movement Practice with our CEO and founder, Catrina Stiller, LPCMH.
